Anthropology Major Fox

Hello, and welcome to Anthropology Major Fox, the meme for us Anthro freaks.

You don't have to be a major or minor to appreciate the submissions, you just have to love that tricky little field of Anthropology. Submissions about all four (perhaps five) areas of Anthropology will be accepted; Cultural, Biological, Linguistic, and Archeological Anthropology, as well as Applied Anthropology (if you think that's separate).
Disclaimer: I try not to use this blog as a platform for politics or anything like that, but this is important to all of us, especially as anthropologists who are interested in the free exchange of ideas, and the varying human sub-cultures that exist within and because of the Internet.
Dear Anthro Foxes:
As you may have noticed, when you go to the Anthro Fox blog, there is a big black bar at the top of the page with the words “Stop Internet Censorship”. This is in protest of the proposition of the bills known as SOPA and PIPA (H.R. 3261 and S. 986, respectively) which the US Congress is currently debating and discussing.
These bills, among other things, will severely restrict the ability of individuals to share information on the internet, which is a dangerous thing. They are titles “Stop Online Piracy Act” and “Protect IP Act” in an attempt to ingratiate the bills with those who hear of them, but the reality of what they are for is quite different. SOPA and PIPA are not about stopping piracy or about protecting IP’s. They are about restricting the flow of information. They are about the censorship of online voices.
Wikipedia, the 6th most visited website in the world, will be blacking out for 24 hours tomorrow in protest of SOPA and PIPA, along with many other websites, like Reddit, and Boing Boing, and other websites have shown their support, including Tumblr.
I encourage all of my followers here to add the censorship bar to the tops of their blogs and websites, and to visit the American Censorship website, where you can learn more about calling your representatives in congress, protests, and the bills themselves.
